In recent years, as Chinese tire products have gained increasing market share globally, more and more countries have imposed anti-dumping measures against Chinese tire exports. These policies have not only impacted China's tire industry but also attracted significant attention in the international trade arena.
The United States was one of the first countries to take anti-dumping actions against Chinese tire products. As early as 2009, the U.S. imposed a 35% tariff on Chinese passenger and light truck tires to protect domestic tire manufacturers. Since then, the U.S. has repeatedly adjusted its tariff policies, intensifying sanctions against Chinese tires. In 2023, the U.S. announced anti-dumping duties on Chinese commercial vehicle and passenger bus tires, with rates ranging from 10% to 30%.
The European Union has also intensified its anti-dumping investigations on Chinese tire products in recent years. In 2021, the EU imposed a five-year anti-dumping duty on Chinese truck and bus tires, with rates ranging from 42.73 euros to 61.76 euros per tire. The European Commission stated that Chinese tire companies, through government subsidies and dumping practices, unfairly captured the EU market, severely threatening the survival of local tire industries.
In addition to the U.S. and the EU, countries such as India, Brazil, and Turkey have also launched anti-dumping investigations and sanctions against Chinese tire products. In 2022, India announced a 40% anti-dumping duty on Chinese truck and bus tires. Brazil imposed a five-year anti-dumping duty of $90 per tire on Chinese passenger car tires. Similarly, Turkey has taken measures to impose high tariffs on Chinese tire imports.
Facing anti-dumping measures from multiple countries, the Chinese government and tire companies are actively responding. China's Ministry of Commerce has repeatedly issued statements opposing these anti-dumping investigations, arguing that these measures lack fair and just grounds and constitute unreasonable discrimination against Chinese companies. Meanwhile, Chinese tire enterprises are enhancing product innovation and quality to improve their competitiveness in the international market. The China Rubber Industry Association stated that it would further strengthen communication and cooperation with various countries, striving to resolve trade disputes through negotiations and legal means to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese tire companies.
